Synopsis

Victor has spent a year preparing a solo speed record on an 8,000-meter peak in Pakistan. He sets off with his friends Jeremy and Benjamin for a harsher expedition than expected: a country shaken by conflict, a fractured glacier, and legendary summits that few will reach this year.
Intezār, the wait heavy with hope.

Story

One year of training for a single day on Gasherbrum II

The plan: a solo ascent of Gasherbrum II, in a day, from base camp, without oxygen. Before that, acclimatize on a neighbouring peak with Jeremy and Benjamin, then go for the record alone.

Pakistan entered into conflict with India just before departure. Commercial expeditions cancelled, and they flew in not knowing whether the project would even start. Their internal flight was cancelled too, and twenty hours of bus on broken roads followed.

More than a week looking for a way up

The winter had been dry. The glacier above base camp, normally covered, was bare. Crevasses maybe a hundred meters deep, five to ten meters wide. Nine kilometers between base camp and Camp 1, and no obvious line through it.

They spent more than a week running rotations on the ice, looking for a passage. Victor fell into a crevasse on the first rotation. Benjamin, who struggled to acclimatize from the first rotations, would spend most of the expedition at base camp.

Director's note

Director's note

I edited Intezār from footage Victor, Jeremy and Benjamin brought back after two months in the Karakoram. What stayed with me, watching the rushes, was the gap between what happened on the mountain and what each of them came home with.

Three friends, the same expedition, three different returns. Intezār is about that gap.
